Unconscious
Part of the brain of which contains nenories, desires, thoughts of which we are unaware of
Id
Most primitive part of the personality, apart of the unconscious. A series of selfish aggressive instinctive behaviours that follows the pleasure principle- demanding instant gratification with little care to social reality
Ego
Realitsic, logical aspect of the conscious personality.
Follows reality principle -interface of unrealistic+ realistic aspects of the id
Gratifies this indirectly or symbolically,e.g fantasing ab violence
Superego
Moral aspect of the conscious personality, who we ought to be and ideal self
Catharsis
Process of expressing aggression, releasing psychic energy.
Preventing this would cause build up of aggressins that would be destructive and expressed inwards -towards self such as self harm, or outwards - to another source such as assault
Cataharsus can b
Displacement- aggression towards one person or aggression to a weaker substitute
Observing others behave violently e.g violent movies

Explanation for diff types of aggression.
Hot blooded aggression, lack of rational thinking need for innnediate gratification , impulsive, shows a failure in the ID to redirect anger
Cold blooded aggression, agressuon that shows rational thinking shows a success in controlling aggression from id in pulses
