Fresh Water Flashcards
What’s OSMOSIS
Dilute solution naturally diffuses through a semi permeable membrane towards the region of higher concentration, in an attempt to equalise the solution concentration.
What’s reverse osmosis
Applying, pressure in excess of the Osmotic pressure which reverses the direction of solution flow , thus producing dilute solution . This process increases the concentration of the concentrated solution
Whats bar of pressure is osmotic pressure
55 bar
When will we use FW Embarkation
When water that we get supplied is from an unknown source
(which may be contaminated with gut parisites)
What BR is FW
BR 820
What sizes are the filters and how many are there on the FW embarkation unit
2 filters
One filter is 3 microns
Second filter is 1 micron
What’s type and size of disease does the fw embarkation unit filter out
Cryptosporidium - size 5 microns Second filter
What does PoS do before rigging the FW on board and what for
-PoS will drain dock supply for around ten mins
-Due to stagnet water and to flush dirty water from system
What are the points of testing on ship for chlorine
Gallery (scholarly) , pump discharge or and the furthers point on ships source/supply
What are the chlorine levels supposed to be at within the tank and coming out of the tap
Tap - 0.2 - 0.5 ppm
Tank - 0.5 - 0.8 ppm
What’s FRC and why do we need this in FW
FRC - free residual chlorine
Why, because we would rather have 1 extra chlorine in the system instead of none or just enough due to PoS may not know or have any way of knowing if there are bugs in the water so having that extra chlorine would tell you it’s clean and bug free.
Where and when is chlorine levels logged ?
When, daily
Where on the logistics log
Water temps Hot and cold ?
Hot- 60°or more
Cold-20° or less
