What do you do when a person attends your
station to report a fraud?

A
  • Provide a fraud report form
  • Create a COPS event detailing allegation
  • Request documents from the victim as evidence of fraud
  • Provide contact details and event number to the victim
  • Explain how the matter will be assessed and they will be advised
  • Statement can be obtained if not overly complex, otherwise arrange for later date/detective to obtain
  • Triage available evidence and enter into EFIMS
  • Scan and upload fraud report form and documents to View IMS
  • Forward fraud report form to supervisor for assessment
  • Investigation commences

If someone wishes to report a fraud over the phone?

A
  • Give the caller the choice of either attending any police station or
  • Send the caller a fraud assessment form to complete and return or
  • Refer them to PAL where relevant
  • Once received fraud report form, follow normal procedures
