Where is Northern Rhone lcated?
On steep granite hills
Follows the course of the Rhone from Vienne in north to Valence in south

Cote Rotie how is located and what is the soil type?
This is the most northerly, vineyards are on the steep slopes and faceing south.
Soil is schist
What is grape in Cote Rotie?
Syrah with up to 20% of Viognier is permited in Cote Rotie.
Why Viognier is added in Cote Rotie?
There are 2 reasons:
1. Historically in poor years over-matured viognier is added as a natural chaptalisation to the Syrah
2. When co-fermented together Viognier helps Syrah stabilised colour

Just south of Cote Rotie

Condrieu what grape is used?
Viognier only
Name the monopole that we can find in Condrieu and small info about it?
Name is Chateaux-Grillet
This is a single vineyard appelation i Condrieu AOC and one of the smallest AOC-s in France.
St-Joseph Location?
It overlaps half of Condrieu and extends south
What are the grapes used in St-Joseph?
For red wine Syrah + 10% of white grapes
For white :
1. Roussanne
2. Marsanne
Hermitage Location?
On the south-faceing granite slopes of hill overlooking the town of Tain on the east bank of the river
Where the name originate from?
From Chevalier de Sterimberg
What grapes they use in Hermitage?
Syrah with up to 15% of Marsanne and Roussanne are permited.
But majority is made from 100% Syrah
