Four Basic Types of Tissues Flashcards
First Lecture in HUBS
What happens when the cell body of a neuron catches a signal?
The long body sends it to the next neuron, and another one, and another one
Functions of the nervous tissue are?
- Conducts electrical pulses
-Carries informations from inside and outside the body, translating it into actions
What is the function of the smooth muscle tissue?
It wraps around organs like the stomach
What are the three types of muscle tissue?
-Cardiac
-Smooth
-Skeletal
What is the largest basic tissue in the body?
Muscle tissue
What is the function of the muscle tissue?
Allows movement by contracting
What is the function of the skeletal muscle tissue?
Allows us to do physical activities
What is the cardiac muscle?
It is specialised in the heart organ, and is significantly less than the other muscle tissues
The bone has a spongey part on the inside and a more calcified part on the outside. Why?
Because of the balance between elastic and collagen fibres
What are the four kinds of tissues?
- Epithelial
-Connective
-Muscle
-Nervous
What does the epithelial tissue include?
Glands and Epithelia
What determines the kind of structure that any organ in the body has?
Collagen and elastic fibres
What are elastic fibres?
Really stretchy and provides the tissue with extensibility
What are collagen fibres?
Thick fibres that run through all of our organs, allowing strength and are very strong
What are the functions of the connective tissue?
- Provides a structured framework for the human body
-Transports fluids and dissolved materials
-Protects organs
-Defends body from invading microorganisms
-Stores energy
-Surround, support and interconnect other types of tissue
What are the three types of connective tissu?
-Proper
-Fluid
-Supporting
What is the function of the epithelial tissue?
-Provides physical protection
-Controls permeability
-Provides sensation
-Produce specialised secretions
What are the two types of proper connective tissue?
Loose and dense
What are the two types of fluid connective tissues?
Blood and lymph
What are the two types of supporting connective tissues?
Cartilage and bone
Three types of cartilage
-Hyaline
-Elastic
-Fibro
Three types of loose proper connective tissue
-Arreolar tissue
-Adipose tissue
-Reticular tissue
Three types of dense proper connective tissue
-Dense regular
-Dense irregular
-Elastic
