Foundational Movement Sequences Flashcards
Functional Movement
The movement patterns in program design that are intended primarily to improve function in daily activities. Exercise movements that replicate real life movement.s.
Righting reflexes
Reactions that are expressed when the body attempts to move or maintain a position on a stable or fixed surface.
Equilibrium reflexes
The body’s ability to maintain a constant state of equilibrium ( from a biomechanical point of view) while on a surface that is constantly changing.
performance training
Movement patterns in program designs for exercisers with a particular athletic expression as a goal of the training. This training is sport specific and not related to daily living.
open kinetic chain
An exercise performed with the distal end of the moving limb moving freely. The moving appendage moves the body about through a specific movement pattern.
close kinetic chain exercises
An exercise performed with the distal end of the moving limb fixed in place. The remainder of the body moves about the fixed appendage through a specific movement pattern.
biometer abilities
A movement skillset that a person is born with, and can maintain or advance with little instruction.
foundational movement sequences
The basic movements required by the human body to survive. The ability to perform movements such a pushing, pulling, squating, lunging, twisting, and lifting. as well as running, climbing, and throwing.
regression
The practice of making an activity easier by adjusting a program component.
progression
The practice of making an activity more challenging or beneficial by adjusting a program component.
