How do institutions direct our norms? Are they always successful in determining the outcome of our norms?
They try to institute a certain program to regulate us and follow a certain program. In some cases, they are successful but most of the time they are not because individuals are free– some may agree and some may not, creating different outcomes.

How does the system of punishment evolve through institutions?
There are several displacements of the trajectories of the system of punishment. From discipline to spectacle. Hence, they are now isolated from the general public. And now, other industries are also created. From control to a system of surveillance.
Is the individual free? Why or why not?
The individual is free because at the end of the day, whether you will actually follow these forces is still up to us. We are free, but sometimes these forces are strong– we can be persuaded or not.
