Finite or non sustainable as their use will eventually lead to their exhaustion.

Oil 40 -45 years

How does coal generate electricity?
A
They are burned to heat water to make steam.
Steam pressure turns a turbine and powers a generator.
The generator gives electricity.

What are the problems with fossil fuels?
A
Coal oil and gas are fossil fuels. They are finite and will run out and as they are harder to find they become more expensive.
They burn to give off carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
