What is sheet bending?
Grip in folding bar and vice and hit with mallet/hammer
What is press forming?
Presses powered by hradualic rams which create massive pressure
What is strip bending?
Involves heating thermoplastic sheet along heating element
as it softens allows to bent and retain shape when cools down
Why is wooden former used for strip bending?
More accurate bend
cool plastic to retin shape

Hand for one off/small batch
automatic machines can be used
Products made from vacuum forming
Used to make different products
e.g packaging, helmets, masks, baths
What is vacuum forming?
Uses sheet of thermoplastic
heated to make it flexible and form over mould
cooled to become hard
What are moulds from vacuum forming made out of?
Wood/MDF
Mucher than those in injection moulding
What shapes can vacuum forming only produce?
Simple profiles- as it would overlap plastic to be stuck on mould
cannot reinforcing fins in shape
