Q

How is young fold mountains created

A

-continental/ continental or oceanic/continental
-when 2 plates push together (convergent)
-the movement of the plates forces sedimentary rock upwards into a series of folds
-accumulation of layers of sediment
-they are 10-25m years old
-Himalayas

Q

How is Rift Valley formed

African Rift Valley

A

2 plates move apart and the mantle rises causing lines of weakness in the crust. As it rises and the plates move apart the land inbetween falls down. Ocean is then formed in this valley

Q

How are ocean ridges formed

A

-divergent plate boundaries
-As tectonic plates move apart new earths crust is created and Milton rock is pushed up
-a mountain formation is created underneath the ocean
-volcanos are created

Q

How are Island arcs formed

A

When convergent plate boundaries occur and subduction occurs. Volcanoes are made as mantle rises. As tectonic plates are always moving move volcanoes are being made

Q

How are old food mountains formed

A

-continental/ continental or oceanic/continental
-when 2 plates push together (convergent)
-the movement of the plates forces sedimentary rock upwards into a series of folds
-accumulation of layers of sediment
-they have a gentle slope down
-300m years old
-Ural mountains in Russia
