Wet dry swab, light pressure to reduce background DNA transfer from skin

- Photograph, recover whole item where possible
- Background and dry/web swab if on non-porous fixed surface
- Cut out area of interest if on porous fixed material and recover control sample of material

- Seal top to retain contents
- Place in plastic tube with end outside top to ensure it is sealed
- Tamper evident bag

- Collect with sterile tweezers and place in a plastic tube with the used tweezers

- “apparent hair plus tweezers used”

- absorb deposits on surface
- package in plastic bag, seal, label

- Paper bag unless wet
- Plastic bag for transport to drying facility, then paper bag BUT retain original plastic bag
