Q

It is the reproduction on some smooth
surfaces of the pattern or design formed by
the ridges on the inside of the end joint of the
fingers or thumb, through the medium of ink
or any coloring substance capable of
producing visibility.

Q

IMPORTANCE OR VALUE OF FINGERPRINTS

A
  • Prevent impersonation (changing personal data)
  • Speedy identification of wrongdoer (falsification, forgery)
  • Serve to give evidence (identification of criminals)
  • Helps to identify victims of disasters, calamities, floods, etc.
  • Identifies bodies whose cadaver are beyond recognition.
  • Aids judiciary in penal treatment (fingerprinting of prisoners)
  • Prevent criminal substitution of the newly born.

Q

ELEVEN (11) POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED IN TAKING LEGIBLE FINGERPINTS

A
  1. Cleanliness of equipment.
  2. The right kind and correct amount of ink.
  3. Proper distribution of ink on the glass slab or inking plate.
  4. The distance of the subject from the inking plate on the fingerprint card.
  5. The advice of the operator to the subject to relax and never to aid the operator.
  6. The pressure exerted must be slight and even the rolling be continuous movement including the lifting.
  7. The nail of the fingers should be at right angle to the glass slab or to the card before starting the rolling, always roll the fingers until the other side of the nails is reached.
  8. The inking and printing must always reached below the first joint of the fingers.
  9. The thumb should be rolled towards the subject’s body and all other fingers away from the subject’s body.
  10. While rolling the fingers, the subject’s hand should be held/controlled properly to prevent twisting.
  11. Proper alignment.

Q

Fingerprints found at the crime scene

known as chance impressions and means something hidden or concealed.
are those markings usually rather indistinct, left by the oily matters or perspiration exuded from the finger tips or palms upon any substances which the fingers/ palms may have touched.

A

LATENT PRINTS

20
Q

3 LATENT PRINTS

A

Invisible latent prints
Semi-visible latent prints
Visible latent prints

21
Q

Two methods of developing Latent prints

A

Physical method

Chemical method

22
Q

Types of Physical method

A

Brushing method

Rolling method

23
Q

Principle involved is that the developing reagents adhered or stick to the sweat that are present in the latent print.

A

Physical method

24
Q

Principle involved is that when the developing reagent comes in contact with the chemical composition of the sweat another chemical element is formed or there is a chemical reaction that takes place.

A

Chemical method

25
Q

4 Chemical method

A

Ninhydrin Acetone Solution
•Ninhydrin Benzene Solution
•Superglue (Gas Method)
•Emulgen Black Method

28
Q

Searching

A
  • Always use gloves
  • Point of Entry
  • Point of Attack
  • Point of Exit
29
Q

Developing

A
  • Attention should be given to objects, such as guns, door knobs, glasses, windows, papers, bottles, and protect and preserve intact of any latent print developed.
  • Correct amount and quality of powder to be used. The purpose is to developed latent prints that can be classified, analyzed and identified.
30
Q

used in lifting latent prints

A

Lifting-Vinylon lifting tape or scotch tape

31
