forearm and elbow anatomy Flashcards
name the articulation in the wrist joint ?
Distal radioulnar joint: with the head of the ulna
name the two parts of the distal radius ?
-Radial Styloid process: lateral side projects distally
-Ulnar notch: medial surface forms radioulnar joint
name the two parts of the distal ulna ?
- Head of Ulna: smaller in diameter, rounded head
- Ulnar styloid process: attached to the ulnar collateral ligament
what is longer the ulna or radius ?
ulna
what is the medial bone out of the radius and ulna
ulna is the medial bone
what is the lateral bone out of the radius and ulna
radius is the lateral bone
describe pronation and supination
- pronation is where the palm is facing downwards (posterior)
-supination is when the palm is facing upwards (superior)
what are the two articulations for proximal radius ?
-Elbow joint (articulates with humerus)
-Proximal radioulnar joint: radial head & ulnar notch
what are the 3 structures for the proximal radius ?
-Head of Radius: disc shaped, concave articulating surface (with radial notch
-Neck: narrow, between head and radial tuberosity
-Radial Tuberosity: projection allows for attachment of the tendons of the biceps brachii muscle
name the 4 structures of the proximal ulna ?
-Olecranon process: projection of bone extends proximally forming back of the trochlear notch
-Trochlear notch: Wrench shaped, articulates with trochlea of humerus
-Coronoid process: ridge of bone projects outwards anteriorly forming front part of trochlear notch
-Radial notch: lateral surface of trochlear notch articulates with head of radius
what can you not see clearly on a ap elbow ?
trochlea notch
name the properties of diatal humerous (7)
-Medial and lateral epicondyles
-Capitulum: rounded, articulates with head of radius (the Malteser)
-Trochlea: pulley shaped, articulates with trochlear notch of the ulna
-Radial fossa – anteriorly, receives head of radius when elbow is flexed
-Coronoid fossa – anteriorly, receives coronoid process of ulna when elbow flexed
-Olecranon fossa – posteriorly, receives olecranon process when elbow is extended
what structures are superimposed in the humerus
Capitulum and Trochlea
what structues are not visible on a ap elbow
Radial Fossa
Coronoid Fossa
what structures are not visible on a lateral elbow
Radial Fossa
Coronoid Fossa
Olecranon Fossa
