Forces Paper 2 Flashcards
What is momentum equation?
Mass × velocity
Is momentum a vector or scalar quantity?
Vector meaning it has both magnitude and direction
What is the conservation of momentum?
This means the total momentum before is equal to the total momentum after IN A CLOSED SYSTEM
Why are seatbelts, crumple zones, foam and airbags used as safety features in a car?
This is because they increase time taken for an impact. This decreases the rate of change of momentum, which in turn results in a lower force, minimising risk of injury
As speed increases, thinking distance?
Increases
As speed increases, braking distance?
Increases
Newton’s First Law
An object with a resultant force of 0 will remain at rest or continue to move at constant velocity
Newton’s second law?
F = m a
Newton’s third law?
It states that when one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object simultaneously exerts a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction
What is pressure?
Pressure is how concentrated a force is
(Force/Area)
Contact and non-contact forces?
Contact force like friction tension
Non contact force like electrostatic gravity
Work done?
Work done is energy transferred by a force
Hooke’s law?
Hooke’s law states that force is directly proportional to extension until deformed
