Forces: Free-body Diagrams Flashcards
Define “free-body diagrams”.
Diagrams used to show size and direction of all forces acting upon an object in a situation
Object is represented as a dot
Forces are represented as arrows
Length of arrow is the magnitude
Direction of the arrow is the direction of the force acting on the object
Define “balanced forces”.
Every force is opposed with an equal force of the same strength.
Define “constant velocity”.
Balanced forces -> at rest/ moving left, right, up, down at a constant speed
Define “unbalanced forces”.
One/more forces are not counteracted by an equal opposing force
When forces are unbalanced, there is a net force/resultant force.
Define “net force”.
The result of adding up all the forces as vectors
The net force is a vector with a magnitude (number) and a direction
