Forces Flashcards
Is force a vector or scalar
Vector
What does vector mean
Magnitude and direction
What is a scalar quantity
Only have magnitude and no direction
What’s the diffidence of a contact and non constancy force
Contact = 2 forces have to be touching for force to act Non-contact= objects do not need to be touching for force to act
What does an interaction pair mean
A pair of forces that are equal and opposite and act on two interacting objects
What is gravitational force
A force of attraction between masses
What’s the difference of mass and weight
Mass = the amount of stuff in the object Weight = the force acting on the object due to the gravity
What does the weight of an object depend on
The gravitational field strength at the location of object
So weight of an object changes in locations
What is weight > force measured in
Newtons
How is weight and mass measured
Weight > using a newtonmeter
Mass> measured in kilograms with a mass baambde
How can you calculate weight and mass
Weight = mass x gravitational field strength
What do the arrows show on free body diagrams
The relative magnitudes of the forces
When is work done
When a force moves an object through a distance energy is transferred and work is done on th object
What is the work done equation
Force x distance
When is one joule of work done
When a force of 1 newton causes an object to move a distance of 1 metre
