Forces Flashcards
A push or pull one body exerts on another
Force
An object moving, keeps moving at that velocity, an object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by a net force
Newton’s First Law
The tendency of an object to resist any change in motion
Inertia
Combination of all forces that act on an object
Net Force
Every object exerts a force on every other object felt as a pull
Gravity
The amount of matter or “stuff” an object has measured in kilograms
Mass
Measure of force of gravity on an object’s mass; how hard the object is pulled toward center of earth
Weight
To every action there is an = (in size) and opposite (in direction) reaction force
Newton’s 3rd law of motion
Mass on the move; the force required to stop a moving object
Momentum
Anything that’s thrown or shot through the air
Projectile
Force acting toward the center of a curved or circular path
Centripetal Force
Resists getting an object moving (this is when objects are not moving)
Static Friction
resists keeping an object moving (happens while it is moving)
Kinetic Friction
F=ma force = mass x acceleration
Newton’s second law
opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching each other
