Forces Flashcards
How do you measure density?
Mass divided by volume
How do you measure volume
Breadth times width times height
How do you measure mass?
Grams kilograms or tons
What is friction?
A force that acts against the movement of an object
What is buoyancy?
The upward push of water or other fluids
What is applied energy?
A push pull or generally energy that is applied to an object
Name 3 types of non contact
Gravitational magnetic and electrostatic
What is traction?
Traction is a force that keeps objects from slipping or losing contact with a surface
What causes a magnet to repel and attract
Two of the same poles repel and two opposites attract
What is a magnetic field?
The area around a magnet where it’s magnetic force acts
Why does the earth have a magnetic field?
As the earth spins the movement of molten iron in the earths outer core creates electric currents in the core that generate the magnetic field
What is a gravitational force
The force of attraction that exists between any two bodies in the universe that have mass
What is a magnetic force
The force that acts between magnets
