What is poliomyeitis?
Viral disease that causes destruction of the anterior horn cells in the spinal cord; hallmark is motor weakness with normal sensory exam
What can occur in up to half of polio patients later in life?
Post-polio syndrome; represents the affliction of more anterior horn cells after initial infection; occurs in up to 50%
