Foot Flashcards
Nerve supply to dorsum of foot?
Superficial fibular nerve
Deep fibular nerve
Sural nerve
What does the superficial fibular nerve give rise to?
medial and intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerves
Deep peroneal nerve branches?
Lateral is motor to extensor hallucis brevis and extensor digitorum brevis
Medial is cutaneous
Sural nerve branches?
lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve
What is extensor retinaculum for?
Y shape on lateral side of ankle for tendons of extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus and tibialis anterior
Flexor retinaculum?
For tendons of tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus and flexor hallucis longus
What three muscles are in the dorsum of the foot?
Extensor digitorum bevis
Extensor hallicus brevis
Dorsal interossei (abductors- second toe is reference)
What is the blood and nerve supply to sole of foot?
Posterior tibial artery branching into medial and lateral plantar arteries and perforating arteries.
Tibial nerve, saphenous nerve, sural nerve all cutaneous. Tibial nerve via lateral and medial plantar nerves are motor
What muscles make up the first layer of the sole of the foot?
Abductor hallucis
Flexor digitorum brevis
Abductor digiti minimi
What tendons make up the first layer of the sole of the foot?
Flexor digitorum longus tendon and Flexor hallucis longus tendon
Abductor hallucis OIAI?
Calcaneal tuberosity, base of big toe, abduct big toe, medial plantar nerve S1- S2
Flexor digitorum brevis OIAI?
Calcaneal tuberosity, sides of digits 2-5, flex PIP joints 2-5, Medial plantar L5, S1-S2
Abductor digiti minimi OIAI?
Calcaneal tuberosity, proximal phalanx little toe, abducts little toe, Lateral plantar S2-S3
What do the three muscles of the first layer of sole of foot have in common?
all originate from calcaneal tuberosity
Abd hall and Flex digiti brevis are medial plantar
Second layer of muscles in the sole of the foot?
Quadratus plantae and Lumbricals
