Food security Flashcards
Climate risks on food security
World bank states 702 million people live in extreme poverty. Climate-related disasters have potential to destroy crops such as floods/droughts. Also long term climate risks such as sea level rise affecting coastal areas or accelerated glacial melt will affect the quantity if water available
Food availability
Changes in climatic conditions have already affected the production of some staple crops and future climate change with exacerbate this. Higher temps will have an impact on yields and changes in rainfall will affect crops
Food access
Climate change could increase prices of major crops in regions. For most vulnerable, lower argi output means lower incomes
Food utilization
Climate related risks affect calorie intake, where chronic food insecurity is a big prob changing climatic conditions create cycles of disease/hunger
Food stability
More intense weather events can upset the stability of individuals/governments
