Explain in detail how apparatus can be used to measure the amount of energy in a snack food. Ensure you explain what readings must be taken and include 2 safety precautions.

In your explanation include the apparatus; thermometer, boiling tube, 20cm3 water, snack food, tongs,Bunsen burner, top pan balance.

Measure out 20cm3 water into a boiling tube and clamp the boiling tube to a stand.
Take contents of boiling tube’s temperature. This is the initial temperature of the water.
Top pan balance is used to measure right amount of snack food.
Grab your snack food with the tongs and hold it under the Bunsen until it starts to burn
Once done, turn off the Bunsen.
Now stir the water in the boiling tube and record the final temperature of water.
Energy= RISE IN TEMPERATURE X VOLUME OF WATER X 4.2J
Safety= TIE LONG HAIR BACK, WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.
