  1. For growth and repair (grow new cells, repair tissues)
  2. For energy (e.g. moving, muscle contraction)
  3. To stay healthy (maintain processes of the body e.g immune system)

Carbohydrates

A

These contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
They are mainly used as a source of energy that is released by respiration. (MRS C GREN respiration releases energy from food.)
There are two types; simple and complex.
