Energy, growth, repair, protection against disease.
Carbohydrates-
Sugars, starch, fibre.
Vitamin C-
Citrus fruits, healthy skin and gums.
Vitamin D-
Milk, strong healthy bones.
Calcium-
Milk, healthy bones.
Iron-
Liver and cabbage, makes red blood cells
Balanced diet-
Right amounts of nutrients to stay healthy. Must have the 5 major nutrients and water.
Food pyramid-
Shows how much to eat of each food.
To test for startch-
Use iodine on bread, turns from brown to blue/black
To test for glucose (reducing sugar) -
add Benedict’s solution to lucozade, heat it. Turns from blue to brick red
To test for protein (Biuret test) -
add copper sulfate and sodium hydroxide (Biuret reagent) to meat. Turns from blue to violet.
To test for fat-
Put brown paper onto oil. A translucent dot appears.
Convert chemical energy to food to heat energy-
burn a crisp and it heats a test tube of water.
