5) Mature follicle
What is primary follicle?
Oocyte grows and seperates from granulosa cells by zona pelluicida
What is function of zona peluicida? (2)
Binding of sperm to unfertilized eggs
Preventing sperm from binding to fertilized eggs
What process occurs in preantral follicle?
Granulosa cells differentiate into theca cells
- 2 cells function for oestrogen synthesis
What do granulosa cells differentiate into in preantral follicle?
Theca cells
When is oocyte in full size?
Early antral follicle
When is the mature follicle dominant?
7
What happens to the non dominant follicle?
Atresia- cell death
What hormone triggers emergence of oocyte from meiotic arrest?
LH surge
What does mature follicle (Graafian) develop into?
Secondary oocyte
What carries oocyte away?
Antral fluid
When is first meiotic division completed?
Secondary follicle
