Narrow valleys are easy to to damn and there are lakes of which can be used to store water.

The large amount of trees cover many of the slopes (mainly north facing)- the wood is a local resource and is useful for building materials and winter fuel

Winters are warming up
People are skiing on worn slopes- damaging vegetation and the surface, which increases the number of bare surfaces
And the risk of soil erosion on steep slopes

Farmers Have to buy the animals food through out the winter while they are on the valley floor to keep them alive.
Cable cars built for tourism are used to get the milk to dairies in the valley floor.
