What are the characteristics of a good lesson plan? IFRCUPS
I) Instructional Steps - Every lesson should fall into four steps of the teaching process. Preparation, Presentation, Application, and Review/Evaluation
F) Flexibility - The lesson should have room for add-ons or alterations
R) Relation to the course of training - Should be clear to the student for each lesson
C) Contents - Each lesson should contain new material and relate to past lessons
U) Unity - Each lesson should be a unified segment of instruction
P) Practicality - The lesson should be planned with current conditions for training
S) Scope - Must be reasonable, a person can master only a few skills at a time

What are the 2 types of objectives?
Performance based - What to do, how to do it, and how you performed
Decision based - Suited to scenario types training, involves critical thinking skills, ADM

A) Attention - Use an applicable joke or story
M) Motivation - Offer specific reason why the lesson is important
O) Overview - Clear and concise presentation of the objective

What concepts are involved with the conclusion?
A review and wrap up of the lesson will reinforce learning and improve retention.
What are some common training delivery methods?
Lecture
Guided discussion
Computer assisted learning
Demonstration performance
Drill and practice
Cooperative/Group learning
What is the lecture method?
Primarily used to introduce new concepts, summarize new ideas
Illustrated - Uses instructional aids
Briefing - Uses short, concise facts
Formal - to inform, persuade, or entertain
Informal - Student participation in a relaxed atmosphere
Disadvantages - least useful for evaluation of student performance, and the instructor doesn’t get feedback
What is the Guided Discussion method?
Draws out what students know through questioning, involves:

Conclusion
What is the computer assisted learning method?
PC Based, students learn at a rate that suites their needs, includes simulators, test prep, and flight training devices
What is the demonstration performance method?
Student performance is their application of the instructors presented material.
Corrections here are important due to primacy

What is the drill and practice method?
Promotes learning through repetition, with more practice, comes more improvement.
What is the cooperative, or group learning method?
The students are individually accountable for their own work, and the work of the group as a whole is assessed.
