FOI (F) Techniques Of Flight Instruction Flashcards
What are some common obstacles to learning during flight instruction?
“FAAWIP”
Feeling of unfair treatment
Apathy due to inadequate instruction
Anxiety
Worry or lack of interest
Impatience to proceed to more interesting operations
Physical discomfort, illness, fatigue, dehydration
What is the demonstration performance method?
5 Phases:
Explanation, Demonstration, Student Performance and Instructor Supervision, Evaluation
Sterile Cockpit?
No Non essential activity during critical phases of flight (taxi, takeoff, landing)
What are some examples of distractions an instructor can use?
Drop a pencil, have student determine heading to an airport, ask student to get something out of the backseat, compute TAS from E6B, ask a student to identify an off field landing spot
What is Integrated flight instruction?
A technique of teaching using both outside visual references and flight instruments to accomplish a maneuver. This should be introduced from first time a maneuver is introduced.
How can we assess piloting ability?
Review
Collaborative assessment
Written Tests
Performance Based tests
Define ADM:
A systematic approach to the mental process used to consistently determine the best course of action.
What are the two models we can use for ADM?
DECIDE Model
3 P model
DECIDE model:
Detect (a change needing attention)
Estimate (the need to counter or react to the change)
Choose (the most desirable outcome)
Identify (actions to successfully control the change)
Do (the actions)
Evaluate (the effect of the action countering the change)
3 P Model:
Perceive (all the circumstances of the flight)
Process (the consequences of each hazard)
Perform (the best course of action)
Five Hazardous Attitudes
“RAIIM”
Resignation (you’re not helpless) Anti-authority (the rules are usually right) Impulsivity (not so fast, think first) Invulnerability (it can happen to you) Macho (taking chances is foolish)
