Teach your children what focus looks like. Use a timer at random intervals to learn how long one can stay focused.
Give people the choice as to what task to complete first. Focus on one task at a time. Multitasking isnt effective.
Dont let media be an ongoing source of distraction. Turn off the monitor. Turn off the TV. If music, have it without vocals.
Use mindfulness to focus on one thing at a time. One breath, a mantra or a visualization.
Visualize what “ready” looks like. Picture it ahead of time. Take a photograph of what ready looks like.
Think in terms of categories—hygeine, food, school or work supplies, personal items and after school activities.
Get things ready the night before.
No toys or electronics during meals.
Have your child make predictions on how long each task will take and check in afterward to see how long it took. Discuss the patterns w your kids.
Use an analog clock at the homework area. Play beat the clock game.
Teach your child how to use a planner.
Post a family calendar to teach planning and time management.
Sense of humor is important. Concentrate on the task at hand. Have the ability to relax after and have a laugh.
