Q

How is sweat rate and fluid replacement calculated for an athlete?

A

Calculate body mass change after exercise.
Then calculate body mass change as a %.

Sweat loss = (body mass change in kg X 1000) X (60 / Exercise duration in minutes)

Fluid replacement = Sweat loss X 1.5

Q

How is hydration status calculated?

A

Use the urine osmolarity measurement to determine hydration status:
Hydrated: 500-700 mOsmol/kg
Dehydrated: ≥700 mOsmol/kg
Hyperhydrated: ≤500 mOsmol/kg
If dehydrated, calculate recommended fluid intake:
Multiply body mass (kg) by 0.02 (2%)
