Flight Planning Part 1: Plotting a Course Flashcards
What are the considerations you need when planning your flight?
Airplane cruise performance, Time en route to destination, fuel required, weather conditions (temp, pressure, winds aloft)
What is dead recknoning?
Navigation technique based on time, airspeed, distance, and direction
What is pilotage?
Navigating by landmarks and visual checkpoints
What is the first step to planning via dead recknoning? Second step?
Determine the lengths of the flight legs / True course of each leg /
What is the difference between heading and track?
Drift angle
What is true heading? What is the name of the angle between the true heading and the true course?
The heading needed to offset drift angle and achieve true course / Wind correction angle
What is the definition of magnetic variation?
The difference between magnetic north and true north at any given point
What is an isogonic line? Igonic line?
Line’s on a sectional that show the degrees of magnetic variation / Line where there is zero magnetic variation
How do you use isogonic lines to achieve a true course matching the magnetic course?
Use the isogonic lines on a sectional to add (west is best) or subtract (east is least) magnetic heading from the true course
