36
Q

What does the green vertical arrow on the VSI represent?

A

STV (Speed Trend Vector) shows what your speed will be in 10 secs

37
Q

What is the green bar and triangle on the alt scale?

A

EFIS set DA

38
Q

Can the crew clean a dirty DU screen?

A

No, it is a maintenance function and prohibited for the crew.

39
Q

What does an illuminated spangle on a MCP mode switch mean?

A

A mode has been SELECTED and can be deselected. The only indication that a mode is ACTIVE is on the PFD FMA.

40
Q

What conditions are required to engage the AP?

A

No force on the control column and stab trim cut out switches in norm

41
Q

What is the function of the AT ‘RETARD’ mode?

A

Shown when TLs reduced to close, always followed by ARM (white)

42
Q

How is selected under speed shown on the MCP?

A

Flashing ‘8’ ‘A’ before the speed if you set a speed below the top of the lower amber hockey stick (1.3g to stall). Aircraft will not slow to less than 5kts above the hockey stic

43
Q

How is selected overspeed shown on the MCP?

A

Flashing ‘8’ (or ‘B’) before the speed if you set a speed above the upper amber hockey stick (1.3g to mach buffet). Aircraft will stop accel at 5kts to the hockey stick

44
Q

What is the function of the SPD INTV on the MCP?

A

Blanks or opens the speed window. Blanked = FMC speed, Open = manually selected (MCP) speed

45
Q

Climbing in VNAV when will the aircraft level off?

A

VNAV ALT = MCP window alt
VNAV PATH = FMC planned alt

46
Q

What is the function of the ALT INTV on the MCP?

A

Manual deletion and overwrite of the FMC alt constraint with the MCP alt

47
Q

With no AP selected in CMD, which will be the master (MA) Flt Director (FD)?

A

Whichever one was switched on first

48
Q

Which is the primary FCC?

A

Switches with MA switch

49
Q

If you have CMD B selected and press CMD A what will happen?

A

Both illuminate temporarily to hand over then CMD B will blank, CMD A is now controlling the AP, the FD will switch to the left as MA

50
Q

What does a flashing red A/P caption and audio mean?

A

AP disconnected

51
Q

Solid red A/P caption (no audio)?

A

Stab out of trim <800ft on dual AP approach (AP will discinnect!)

52
Q

Flashing Amber A/P (no audio)?

A

Entered CWS P or CWS R from CMD

53
Q

Flashing red A/T (no audio)?

A

AT disconnected

54
Q

Steady amber FMC?

A

Scrathpad MSG on FMC CDU

54
Q

Flashing amber A/T (no audio)?

A

Flaps not up & airspeed -5/+10 of commanded and not correcting

55
Q

What is the rudder control in auto flight?

A

None, the AP does not control rudder

56
Q

What are the PFD FMAs from left to right?

A

Thrust mode / roll mode / pitch mode

57
Q

Possible FMAs

A

N1 LNAV TO/GO (TO)

58
Q

How is an FMA change shown?

A

New active mode is boxed in green for 10 secs

59
Q

When will FLARE arm?

A

Below 1500ft RALT after the ILS pitch confirmation test is complete (ILS markings flash amber)

60
Q

When will the AP flare?

A

50ft, AT will retard at 27ft

61
Q

What happens to the FD in the flare?

A

It occults (cuts off from view)

62
Q

What happens to the FD after TOGA press on the TO?

A

<60kts parked 10 deg down
At 60kts commands 15deg up then holds V2 +20

63
Q

You press TOGA on approach, what will the thrust mode do?

A

If below 1000ft
1st press shows ‘GA’ and will give you a 1-2000fpm climb
2nd press will show ‘N1’ and will give max available N1
If above 1000ft goes straight to N1 limi

64
Q

What is CWS?

A

Control Wheel steering. The AP is engaged but holds maual inputs.

65
Q

Aircraft climbing in CMD and the control column is pushed, what will happen?

A

If gentle, enter CWS P (Pitch). If hard AP disconnects

66
Q

If in CWS R and you release the controls at 5 deg AOB what happens?

A

If <6 deg AOB the AP will roll out and hold heading. If >6 AOB the bank will be held

67
Q

In CWS P you pull up to 3 deg up what happens?

A

If >250ft alt change the AP will maintain the pitch. If <250ft alt change the AP will return to the MCP or FMC alt

68
Q

Below 2000ft on an auto approach, single AP, what happens at TOGA press?

A

Manual GA with FD displayed

69
Q

Below 2000ft on auto approach, dual AP selected, what happens at TOGA press?

A

If above 1500ft, SINGLE CH, manual GA with FD
If below 1500ft, FLARE armed and CMD, AP flown GA

70
Q

What are the significant alts associated with an AP approach?

A

<1500ft second AP will engage if ILS checks and FLARE armed
800ft last chance to select 2nd AP
400ft AP trim up input
350ft if ‘FLARE’ not armed AP drops out
158ft last AP disconnect if reverting to manual

71
Q

If you disconnect AP below 400ft on a dual approach, what do you need to beware?

A

The pre flare trim up has already been made, on AP disconnect there will be a strong pitch up force.

72
Q

Risks of using V/S at high alt?

A

Risk of approaching the stall in a climb or Vmo in a descent (there is auto protection for both). Better using LVL CHG

73
Q

What does a green spangle on an MCP mode show?

A

Mode selcted active and can be deselected (if the spangle is out the mode may be active (check FMA) but cannot be delected, most commonly seen on APP)

74
Q

If you are in APP and need to change modes, how can you?

A

De tune the nav aid, diconnect AP

75
Q

How do you disengage the AT?

A

Either button on TLs or the switch on MCP

76
Q

When conducting an auto land when do you deselect the AP?

A

After touchdown of the main wheels, before nose wheel touch down.
There is no auto rollout capability on fleet aircraft

77
Q

On auto land when does AT disengage?

A

2 sec after touch down, or when manually deselected

78
Q

At what point in an auto land flare is the drift ‘kicked off’?

A

It isnt. AP has no rudder control, hence auto land x-wind limit 20kts, ac will touch down ‘crabbed’, PF must straighten the roll out at AP disconect.

79
Q

If you set a RADIO DA on EFIS and switch to BARO is the RADIO automatically converted to BARO?

A

No, both have to be set seperately. This is so you can set a RALT DA for a Cat 2 AP app, and also a different BARO DA for reversion to Cat 1 manual app.

80
Q

If you disconnect the AP can you leave the AT in?

A

No, without AP, AT should not be used, but AP can be used without AT.

81

A

You are paasing over the last waypoint enetered in the FMC route

83
Q

What is classed as end of descent?

A

The start of the STAR or the runway in the FMC

84
Q

If there is no end of descent, can you descend in VNAV?

A

Only in VNAV SPD, you need a EOD to use VNAV PATH

85
Q

THRUST HOLD means what?

A

servos inhibited, pilot can then set manually
