Flight Instruments Flashcards
There are two air data systems (ADSs). What are the components of each?
Each system consists of 1 air data computer (ADC), 1 pitot tube, 1 TAT probe, and 2 static ports
Which instruments/sensors make up the standby ADS system?
1 pitot/static tube, 1 standby altimeter, and 1 standby airspeed indicator
In addition to the standby instruments, to which other system does the NO. 3 pitot/static tube provide air pressure information?
CPAM
What does an amber colored ADC 1/ADC 2 message on the PFD indicate?
Only one ADC is supplying both the captains and first officers instruments
What is the purpose of the air data computer (ADC)?
It senses, processes, and transmits air data information to various systems and instruments of the airplane
What information does the air data computer (ADC) provide to the IC-600?
Airspeed (true, calibrated, Mack number, and vertical), altitude (pressure and corrected), VMO, and temperature (static and total)
What other systems receive information from the ADCs?
- FADEC (total pressure, Mach number, TAT)
- HSCU (calibrated airspeed)
- Transponder/TCAS (pressure altitude)
- AHRS (AH-900 only - true airspeed)
- FMS (true airspeed)
- Radar (altitude)
- SPS (Mack number)
- GPWS (calibrated and true airspeed, altitude, vertical speed)
- CPCS (pressure altitude and baro correction, altitude rate of change)
- Ice protection (altitude trip point)
- Rudder system (calibrated airspeed trip point)
- AWU (overspeed warning output
How are the barometric pressure data discrete inputs to the ADCs set?
On the PFD bezel
What is indicated by an amber RA label inside an amber box at the bottom of the altitude indicator?
Radio altimeter failure
If the acceleration trend vector exceeds Vmo or Mmo, in what color are the digits in the airspeed window and the digital Mach readout shown?
Amber
The magenta airspeed trend vector represents the airspeed which the aircraft will attain in how many seconds?
10
The altitude trend vector represents the altitude which the aircraft will attain in how many seconds?
6
A red X on the airspeed and altitude tapes and a red V/S on the vertical speed indicator indicates what?
An air data computer failure
Which pitot tube and static ports supply the No. 1 ADC?
Pitot 1 and static ports 1 and 4
An amber IAS message shown on the airspeed tape indicated a difference of how many knots or more between airspeed indications?
5 KIAS
An amber ALT shown on the PFD indicates a discrepancy of more than how many feet between altitude indicators?
200’
ROL message shown on the PFD indicates a discrepancy of more than how many degrees of bank?
6°
PIT comparison monitor will be shown on the PFD when there is a discrepancy of more than how many degrees of pitch?
5°
How many hours of aircraft data is recorded by the DFDR?
25 hours
How is decision height set on the radio altimeter?
By using the RA knob located on the display control panel
What does an amber MIN label shown inside a box at the lower right of the attitude indicator indicate?
The aircraft is at a radio altitude equal to, or lower than, the decision height setting
When does the “brown ground” appear on the altitude tape?
When the radio altitude is less than 550’
What is the radio altimeter range?
From -20’ to 2,500’
Which instruments are combined into the ISIS?
Attitude, altitude, and airspeed
Which components are responsible for the interaction among the many airplane systems, besides managing information shown on the display?
IC-600s
How many channels does each DAU have?
Two
What is the purpose of DAU Channel B?
It is kept as a standby source, which mus be manually selected through the EICAS reversionary button
IC-600 No. 1 normally provides images to which screens?
PFD 1, MFD 1, and EICAS
IF IC-600 No. 1 fails, how can you get information back to the pilots screens?
IC-600 No. 2 will control all five displays by pressing the symbol generator (SG) button on the left reversionary panel
How can the MFD be used to show PFD or EICAS information, if those screens fail?
By making the appropriate selection on the reversionary panel
What are the main indications shown on the EICAS screen?
Engine indications, flaps, landing gear, spoilers, and trim positions, total fuel quantity, APU, and pressurization information
Where are the master warning and caution lights?
On each pilots glare shield panel
Regarding EICAS messages, what does the inhibition logic do?
It prevents some messages from being shown during takeoff and approach/landing phases to avoid nuisance effects upon the flight crew
What color are normal indications shown in?
Green
What color are caution messages and lights?
Amber
Voice messages are normally associated with which type of messages on EICAS or their crew awareness systems?
Warning
How is the backup aural warning unit channel activated in Channel A fails?
Automatically
Where can you set V-speed bugs for the airspeed tapes?
MFD SPDS sub-menu
How is the barometric pressure set for either “in Hg” or “HPS”?
A button on the lower left of the PFD
The TCAS provides vertical direction and minimum vertical speed information during evasive maneuvers for evolution advisories. Where is this information shown?
On the PFD VSI
In an electrical emergency, for how many minutes will the ISIS operate solely on the airplane batteries?
About 40 min
Where are the decision height and the associated RA label shown?
