Communications Flashcards
What are major components of the radio management system (RMS)?
Two integrated navigation units, two integrated communication units, two radio management units (RMUs), one tuning backup control head (TBCH), and three digital audio panels (DAPs)
Which Teo separate modules make up the integrated communication unit?
A VHF communication transceiver module and an ATC transponder module
What are the modules that make up the integrated navigation unit?
The VHF navigation receiver module (VOR, localizer, glide slope, and marker beacon receiver), the ADF module, DME transceiver module, and audio digitizers
What is the purpose of the TBCH?
The tuning backup control head (TBCH) can operate as stand-alone control unit or backup third control providing alternative means of tuning COM 2 and NAV 2
Which system is used to send/receive signals to/rom the flight deck, attendant handsets, passenger entertainment, and pe-recorder announcement systems.
PA systems
Which displays are shown on the RMU main page?
COM and NAV frequencies, ATC, TCAS, and ADF
How can the ramp attendant communicate with the flight crew?
Through the Inter phone system by pressing the cockpit call button, which activates a chime in the flight deck headphones and speakers
How many hours of recorder information does the CVR retain?
The most recent 2 hours in solid-state crash-survival memory
When is the CVR energized, and how can it be erased?
Whenever the essential bus is energized, and on the ground with the parking brake applied
What indicates a successful self-test of the CVR?
1-sec activation of the status LED on the control panel
What does the EMERGENCY button on the TBCH do?
In EMRG mode, the RMS will only accept NAV and COM tuning via the TBCH, ignoring the RMUs
What effect will losing the primary radio system bus (RSB) have on the Com systems?
There is no longer the ability to cross-side tune the RMU, and the TCBH becomes inoperative
What is the indication that an RMU has been cross-side tuned?
The frequencies will be shown in amber
How would you change to direct COM tuning on the RMUs and disable the pre-set frequency line?
Depress the line select button for 3 sec.
To transmit through the oxygen mask microphone, which button on the DAP must be selected?
Boom/Mask selected to mask
Which buses supply power for the VHF frequencies on RMU 1 and 2?
RMU 1 VHF is on essential bus 1, and RMU 2 VHF is on DC bus 2
In an electrical emergency, which RMU should be used for COM/NAV and which for the navigation page?
No. 1 RMU for Comm/NAV and No. 2 RMU for navigation
What do amber dashes on No. 2 RMU indicate?
Power to the No. 2 RMU VHF frequencies has been lost
What is the function of the EMER button on the DAP?
The pilots button hard-wires the Captain to Com1/Nav1, and the co-pilot button hard-wires the First Officer to Com2/Nav2 in the event of power failure to the DAP. All other buttons on the affected DAP will be disabled.
What are the available RMU pages?
- Radio page
- NAV and COM Memory pages
- Navigation Backup page
- Engine Backup pages 1 and 2
- SYS Select page (COM band options)
- Maintenance page
- HF Control and Memory pages
If IC-600 No. 1 fails, which page is automatically shown on RMU No. 1?
Engine backup page
How is the active frequency shown in the upper line of the COM or NAV window switched with the pre-set frequency shown in the lower line?
Press the top left bezel panel button for NAV or top right for Com
What is the purpose of the digital radio system buses (RSBs)?
Control and information exchange between all the components of the RMS (Except the DAP)
What is the function of the side-tone knob on the DAP?
Prevents undesirable feedback of speaker side-tone audio into the microphone
