Flight Controls Flashcards
When will the elevator augmentation engage?
When the control tabs have been displaced approx 10* nose down
What is the stabilizer trims range?
2* nose down-12* nose up
What do the dual thumb trim switches operate?
The primary stabilizer trim motor
What do the alternate trim levers operate?
The alternate trim motor
Which trim motor does the autopilot use?
The alternate trim motor
When will you hear a vocal warning regarding the stabilizer?
If the stabilizer is moved by the autopilot at a rate of 2* or greater in 30 seconds
What does the Primary Stabilizer Trim cutout switch do?
Interrupts “release power” to the primary brake and renders the primary trim system inoperative
When will you hear an audible signal for the horizontal stabilizer?
Once for every 1/2* of stabilizer movement by any method
What do the control wheels operate for roll?
Aileron Control Tabs that “fly” the aileron
Flight spoilers (after 5* of control wheel travel)
How many degrees is panel extension during ground spoiler operation?
60*
How many degrees is panel extension during flight spoiler operation?
(Inflight speed brakes)
Approx 35*
Which hydraulic system do the Inboard Flight Spoilers operate on?
Left Hydraulic system
Which hydraulic system do the Outboard Flight Spoilers operate on?
Right Hydraulic System
Which hydraulic system do the Ground Spoilers operate on?
Both Hydraulic systems
What operates the rudder in the Powered mode?
Right Hydraulic System through the rudder control valve
Control tab is locked into a faired position, rudder and control tab move as single unit
What controls the rudder in Manual mode?
Rudder pedals operate the rudder control tab which “flies” the rudder
What does moving the Rudder Hydraulic Control Lever into the Manual position do?
Removes hydraulic pressure from the rudder (RUDDER CONTROL MAN Annunciator)
What does the rudder throw limiter do?
Varies allowed rudder travel based on speed
High speeds= rudder travel limited
Low speeds= rudder travel unrestricted “Rudder Travel Unrestricted”
How can yaw damper be engaged while switch position is in the OFF position?
By engaging the autopilot
When do the Anti-float tabs begin movement?
-As the stabilizer (trim) passes through 10* nose up
When does the throw limiter begin to operate and also end?
On acceleration- begins to restrict at 200 KIAS and is fully restricted by approx 300 KIAS
On deceleration- fully unrestricted by 160-170 KIAS
At what hydraulic pressure will the rudder automatically revert to manual
Approx 1000 psi
When will the auto slats extend? What indications will you see? When will they retract?
During an impending stall:
- slats are in mid position
- airspeed 240 KIAS or less
Slats will automatically extend to extended position. Once condition ceases to exist, slats will retract to mid.
DISAG and AUTO lights illuminate
What are the different Yaw Damp switch positions?
OFF= Is off unless autopilot is engaged, then Yaw Damp is ON
ON= Yaw Damp is on
OVRD= Yaw Damp is always off
What does the Elevator Augmentation system do?
When the control tab is displaced upward beyond a preset limit (attempting to pitch the nose down), hydraulic power moves the elevator surface downward to assure a positive nose down pitch control (stall recovery)
Do we still have operation of the Elevator augmentation system with the left hydraulic system inop?
Yes, 2 full down cycles (pushes) from the accumulator
What do Geared tabs do?
Mechanically connected to the stabilizer, so when the elevator moves, the geared tab is forced in the opposite direction (same direction as the control tab) thus assisting the control tab.
What is the order of priority for the stabilizer trim?
- Primary trim handles (suitcase handles)
- Primary trim switches (control wheel)
- Alternate trim (chiclets)
