Flight Controls Flashcards
What is the Speed Trim System
Speed stability augmentation system designed to improve flight characteristics during
- low gross weight
- aft center of gravity
- high thrust with autopilot disengaged
What is the purpose of the Speed Trim System
To return the airplane to a trimmed speed by commanding the stabilizer in a direction opposite the speed change
What are the conditions for the Speed Trim System to be engaged
Airspeed: 100kias - 0.6M
10 sec after TO
5 sec after release of trim switch
Autopilot OFF
Sensing of trim requirement
How are flight spoilers powered
Hydraulic systems A and B
Why can’t you move the speed brake lever past the flight detent
It will cause airplane buffeting
Which hydraulic systems power which flight spoilers?
A and B each power 2 flight spoilers on each side.
BABA ABAB
What does SPEED BRAKE DO NOT ARM light mean
Indicates an abnormal condition or test inputs to the system. This is deactivated with the speed brake in the down position.
What does SPEED BRAKE DO NOT ARM light mean when illuminated during landing?
Indicates wheel speed below 60kts and the speed brake lever is not in the down position.
Essentially….you forgot to stow them while getting off the runway
(3CM-PX)
SPEEDBRAKES EXTENDED light illuminates to indicate
Flight Spoilers are still extended at radio altitude below 800ft or Trailing edge flaps are extended more than 10 degrees
How are the ground spoilers actuated
Hydraulic system A
When will the Auto speed brake system operate?
Speed brake lever ARMED + light
RA less than 10 ft
Thrust Levers IDLE
MLG spin up + 60kts
MLG strut compression (WOW)
Which MLG strut must compress to deploy ground spoilers
RIGHT MLG
How does the Auto Speed Brake system work during an RTO
MLG spin up + 60kts
Thrust Levers IDLE
Reverse Thrust Levers deployed
All flight and ground spoilers will AUTOMATICALLY deploy until a thrust lever is moved out of idle or the handle is manually stowed
Describe the Load Alleviation System
Conditions: Gross weights above 155,000lbs
And speed above 320kias
3AA-3CL
Flight spoilers limited to 50%.
Must hold lever if wishing to override.
How are trailing edge flaps operated
Hydraulic System B
Normal flap landing configurations
15, 30 and 40
What does LE FLAPS TRANSIT amber light indicate
-LE devices in Transit
-LE devices not in programmed position
-LE slat skew condition exists
How are LE flaps and Slats actuated
Hydraulic System B
What is the AUTOSLAT system
The SMYD will automatically move the slats to the “full extended” position when the airplane approaches a stall condition. This only occurs at flap positions 1, 2 and 5
What indications are present when the AUTOSLAT system is activated
None.
How is the autoslat system operated.
Hydraulic system B.
Alternate: PTU from system A
What is the Flap Load Relief System
Automatic flap retraction if airspeed exceeds VLE.
AA-LB
Only available at 30 and 40
LC +
Available at 10, 15, 25, 30 and 40
What indications exist when the Flap Load Relief System is operating
The flap position indicator will be the only indication
Describe the Alternate Flaps extension
An electric motor will operate when the alternate flaps toggle switch is held in the down position.
What does arming the ALTERNATE FLAPS master switch do
Closes the Flap bypass valve (prevents hydraulic lock of flap drive unit)
Activates standby pump
Arms the position switch
How are the LE devices moved during alternate flap extension
Hydraulic power from the standby system drives LE flaps and slats to the full extend position
Once placed down, how do the LE devices retract in alternate mode
They cannot be retracted. They can only be extended
Which leading edge devices are Not monitored for skew conditions
Slats 1 and 8
Mach Trim systems automatically functions above what speed
.615 M
