Engines Flashcards
How many stages are there in the N2
9
Where is pneumatic air taken from?
N2 stages 5 (low pressure) and 9 (high pressure modulation)
Name components on the accessory drive
Oil scavenge pump
Engine fuel pumps
IDG
Starter
Hydraulic pump
Fuel/Oil heat exchanger
EEC alternator
How does the EEC receive electrical power?
Via an alternator on the accessory drive. It is electrical, but completely independent of the airplane’s electrical system
What are the indications the EEC is in Soft Alternate mode?
Both the white ON and ALTN amber light are illuminated on the EEC guarded switch light
What is Soft Alternate mode?
The EEC has stopped receiving required inputs and is now using the last known data to compute engine thrust settings. Changes in atmospheric conditions or bleed configurations may cause engine over temps .
What are your indications that the EEC is in hard alternate mode?
The white ON is extinguished and only the ALTN amber light is illuminated on the switch light.
What is Hard Alternate mode?
The engine thrust will always be equal or greater to the normal mode thrust for the same lever position.
When will selected engine igniter come on when in the AUTO position?
- Flaps out of 0 below 18,000ft
- Engine A/I ON
When will BOTH igniters come on when in the AUTO position?
- Uncommanded decrease in N2
- N2 between 57% - 50%
- ## Inflight N2 between Idle and 5%
When should CONT ignition be selected?
During Moderate to Heavy rain, hail or sleet
When should FLT be selected?
During severe turbulence
What are engine warm up recommendations?
Required: verify an increase in oil temp
Run the engines for 3 min prior to takeoff using only normal taxi thrust
Engine cool down time?
3 minutes at or near idle
What normally powers the thrust reversers?
Engine 1: Hydraulic A
Engine 2: Hydraulic B
