Flight Control Flashcards
How do we identify and construct the control cables?
ans. Diameter, Number of Strands, number o f wires in each strand
What are the advantages of control cables?
They use less weight than rods and
levers, they are used for fewer connections on a cable system, they break with precautions because you can see the wire breaks as the cable stretches
What are the disadvantages of control cables?
They cannot transmit push forces
What are the advantages of Rod system?
They can transmit push and pull forces
What are the disadvantages of Rod system?
The rod breaks suddenly without
any precaution. It uses many segments to form a transmission
Kinds of Control Transmissions?
Mechanical, Hydraulically, and
Electrical
Kind of Control Transmission for the THS?
Screw jack Transmission
What is the function Screw jack Transmission?
Used to convert rotary inputs to linear movements
What is the purpose of SCU?
Moves the surface in a direction and distance proportional to the input signal
Where does the inputs for SCU comes from?
EFCS, Control Column, Side Stick, AP
What are the characteristics of EFCS?
The whole transmission system is replaced by electrical components (Fly-by-wire system) wherein this saves weight and the control cables are replaced to electrical cables.
What is the function of Feel Unit?
Simulates an artificial feel/air load which is smaller than the actual air load, making it easier for the pilot to control the aircraft
What provides the artificial feel of the air loads to the pilots?
Spring Force
How many SCU installed for each elevator and aileron?
Two independent servo control actuators are installed for each
