Flex Step Method Approach Flashcards
What are the steps in the Flex- step approach?
- There are 3 major steps:
- Problem formulation;
- Analysis;
- Dissemination
What does step 1. Problem formulation consist of?
- Identify boundary conditions and scales?
- Identify the stakeholders
- Detailed problem formulation
- Formulation of research objective
What does step 2. Analysis consist of?
- Select research approach.
- Construct candle. apply made and/ or tools.
- Analyse and rank alternative response options
What does the 3rd step Synthesis & Dissemination consist of?
- Which stakeholders are involved ( scientists, policy makers, general public)
- What are their interests? How can they be reached?
- Options for communication:
- scientific paper
- policy brief
- newspaper articles
- websites
What are the tools used in ESA?
- Causal diagram / DPSIR
- Environmental modelling
- Life cycle assessment (LCA)
- Environmental impact Assessment (EIA)
- Scenario analysis
- Ecosystem service analysis
- Environmental CBA
- Multi criteria analysis (MCA)
- stakeholder analysis
What is environmental modelling used for?
To quantitatively analyse the dynamics of an environmental problem.
What is life cycle assessment (LCA) used for?
To understand the environmental impact of a product.
What is environmental impact assessment used for?
To understand the environmental impact of a project.
What is scenario analysis used for?
To analyse how an environmental problem may evolve in the future.
What is ecosystem service analysis used for?
To assess and understand the importance of the goods and services provided by natural and semi-natural ecosystems and landscapes.
What is ECBA used for?
- To analyse the economic costs and benefits of different measures or responses.
What is Multi criterion analysis (MCA) used for?
To compare and rank alternatives taking into account and evaluating their respective consequences.
What is stakeholder analysis used for?
- To understand the interests and roles of stakeholders in an environmental problem. Input to co-design and co-creation of knowledge and solutions.
