Fixed Appliances Flashcards
List 6 instructions you would give to a patient on the placement of intra oral
elastics?
- Wear as shown.
- Do not copy friends if you are unsure of arrangement, call and ask.
- Wear for the time specified – part time or full time
- Remove to clean teeth
- Replace daily
- If one breaks replace both
What dietary advice would you give a patient that has fixed braces?
• Aviod hard and sticky foods that may break the brace
• Remove elastics if struggling to eat with them in but place back in after.
• Avoid sweet snacks between meals
• Avoid sugary or high acidic drinks, keep to meal times if you do have one as
treat and use a straw
What are the 2 types of self ligating brackets?
Active and passive
List 4 advantages of self ligating bracket?
• Less friction
• Wire fully engaged in the bracket slots
• No external ligation required – reducing plaque traps – helping OH.
• Less chairside time required
List properties of a stainless steel archwire, which make it a popular choice in the later stages of treatment?
•Strong
•Formable
•Cheap
•Low springback
•Low biohost
•Low friction, sliding mechanics
•High stiffness- resisting deformation by intra and extra oral forces.
•Good space closure due to low friction and stiffness.
•Joinability good, can solder hooks for CI space closure.
•Corrosion resistance
4 methods of active space closure
Chain
Niti coil springs
Burman ligature
E-links
Ways to close space?
Sliding mechanics
Closing loops on AW
En masse space closure
Distalising canine into class 1 with 2 stage space closure
Why bond 7’s
