fitness components Flashcards
aerobic power
the maximum rate of energy production from the aerobic energy system (energy produced in the presence of oxygen)
anaerobic capacity
the total amount of energy obtainable from the anaerobic energy systems (the combined capacity of the ATP-CP system and the anaerobic glycolysis system)
muscular strength
the peak force that a muscle can develop
muscular power
the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to exert a maximum amount of force in the shortest period of time
muscular endurance
the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to sustain repeated contractions against a resistance for an extended period of time
speed
the ability to move from point a to point b in the fastest time possible
agility
a combination of flexibility and speed, which allows the performer to change direction with maximal speed and control
flexibility
the range of movement around a joint
balance
the ability of the body to remain in a state of equilibrium while performing a desired task
body composition
the relative proportions of bone, muscle, and fat within the body
coordination
the ability to use different parts of the body together smoothly and efficiently
reaction time
the time between a stimulus and the first response
