Fitness Components Flashcards
Aerobic Power?
Is the ability of the heart, blood vessels and lungs to deliver oxygen to the muscles for the maximal time an individual can sustain aerobic effort
Anaerobic Capacity?
Is the ability to produce energy quickly for as long as anaerobic effort can be sustained. This quick production does not depend on a supply of oxygen to the working muscles
Muscular Strength?
The force a muscle or group of muscles can exert against resistance in a single maximum contraction.
Muscular Power?
The ability to exert a maximal contraction in one explosive act
Muscular Endurance?
Can be viewed as total body endurance where most major muscle groups in the body are required to carry out sustained performance
Flexibility?
Is the capacity of a joint to move through its full range of motion, and reflects the ability of the muscles and connective tissues to stretch
Body Composition?
The relative percentage of body fat compared to lean body mass (muscle, bone, water & connective tissue)
What is an Ectomorph?
Tall, thin and long limbed, difficult to put on weight
What is a Mesomorph?
Lean and muscular, broad shoulders narrow waist, easily develop muscle
What is an Endomorph?
Rounded bodies, obvious stomach, hips and thighs, gain weight easily
Speed?
The ability to move the whole body or body parts from one point to another in the shortest time possible
Agility?
The ability to change direction quickly and precisely and yet retain balance in response to a stimulus
Balance?
The ability to maintain the equilibrium of the body
Co-ordination?
The ability of your body’s senses, nervous system and muscles to perform movements smoothly and accurately
Reaction time?
The time from the presentation of a stimulus to the inset of a response
