Fitness Assessment Flashcards
Name the 4 evaluatory tests of reliability
> Inter-Rater - Consistency between testers
Intra-Rater - Consistency of a testers’ performance
Intra-Subject - Consistency of an athletes performance
Test -Retest - Failure of the test itself to provide consistent results (e.g. device problems, set up problems etc.)

> Sit and Reach
Discuss Functional Movement Screening
A series of movements designed to evaluate stability and mobility. Involves the use of extreme poistions where weaknesses and imbalances become noticeable.
Name 3 tests of Body Composition
> Sum of skin-folds (Callipers)
Bioelectrical-impedance
Hydrostatic weighing
What is pre-screening?
An evaluation of an individual in order to identify risk
Name 3 methods of Pre-Screening
> PAR-Q
AHA questionnaire
Comprehensive medical/health questionnaire
Name 5 Risk Factors used in Risk Stratification
> Family History > Sedentary Lifestyle > Hypertension > Obesity > Smoking
What is informed consent when it comes to pre-screening
Is a legal procedure to ensure that the participant
knows the risks involved
What is body composition
It is the body’s relative amounts of fat mass, and fat-free mass (body fat %)
Name 5 techniques in body composition assessment
> Hydrostatic weighing
Air displacement plethysmography (BODPOD)
Skin fold thickness
Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA)
Body Mass Index (BMI)
What is Hydro Static weighing ?
A method of weighing individuals using water displacement
What is Air Diplacement Plethysmography (BODPOD)?
Measures body volume by air displacement
What is Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA)?
X-ray scan at 2 intensities to measure total body water, lean body mass, fat mass and bone mineral density
What is BMI?
Divide your weight in kilograms (kg) by your height in metres (m). Then divide the answer by your height again to get your BMI.
