Fisica T3 Flashcards
Name two types of waves and define them
Transverse : the vibration is at right angles to the direction of the wave
Longitudinal: the vibration is parallel to the direction of the wave
What is the frequency
How many waves pass by a point every second, it is measured in hertz
What is wave length
Distance between two corresponding points on the wave, it is measured in meters
What is amplitude
Distance between the midpoint to the peak of the wave
What is the time period of wave
Time it takes for a source to produce a wave. It is related to the frequency of the wave
Wave speed equation
Wave speed = frequency x wavelength
Properties of waves
- All waves including sound can be reflection, refracted
- You will always measure the angle from the normal
- The normal will always be 90 degrees of the mirror AOI will always be the same as the AOR
What is refraction
When the light enters a denser transparent substance it slows down and changes direction. This change in direction is known as refraction
