Closed Circulatory System
System where blood is pumped with a heart through vessels of different sizes and thicknesses. The blood very seldom fills body cavities
Cycloid Scales
A scale that has a smooth edge all around and lacks tooth like processes. Found on the Jawless Fishs
Placoid Scales
The scales that are found on the cartilaginous fishs; sharks, rays
Ganoid Scales
Found on the Bony Fishs
Gills
The organs that allow a fish to filter oxygen from the water.
Lateral Line
A visible line along the side of a fish. It consists of a series of sense organs that detect pressure and vibrations and changes in such.
Spawning
Release or deposit eggs.
Jawless Fish
Any various, elongated marine and freshwater fishes lacking a jaw and paired appendages.
Cartilaginous Fish
A class of fish characterized by their skeletons that are made of cartilage instead of bone. Includes sharks, rays and chimeras
Bony Fish
A large class of fish, distinguished by a skeleton of bone. Consists of the majority of modern fishes.
Lobe-Finned Fish
A largely extinct class of fish that had fleshy lobed fins. These are the probable ancestors of amphibians.
Bowfin/Dogfish
Ugliest fish you’ll ever see.
Brown Bullhead
A bullhead that looks like it was caught in the sewers.
Brown Trout
Trout that looks like it came from the sewers.
Eelpout
Looks like a cross between an eel and a catfish.
Channel Catfish
Fatter than normal catfish.
Common Carp
Dorsal fin is on the lower back, almost touching the tail.
Crappie
Big forehead with cheetah-like looking pattern on the body.
Flathead Catfish
Catfish that looks like it had an anvil dropped on it’s head.
Lake Sturgeon
Diamonds on its back and sides.
Lake Trout
White or cream-colored spots on neck or back with a deep fork in the tail.
