What was industrialisation was driven by?
The capitalist quest for profit.

The profits were not shared with the workers. Anything that was left over was put into new means of production.

Railways were more useful because they didn’t freeze during wintertime.

What did taylorism decree?
That production be divided into individual steps that could be completed by a single, unskilled worker; their pay should also be equivalent to that part which they played in the production process.
How were urbanisation and industrialization linked?
Jobs were found in the cities, which caused people to flock to them.
What were a few of the working conditions workers faced?
Low wages, 60-70 hour work weeks, unsafe, unsanitary conditions, abuse by foremen, no job security.
When did unionisation become legal?
1872, when the federal government pass the Trade Unions Act.
