First Month Overview Flashcards
Locking vs non locking screws?
Locking : engages with the plate
The screw tightens and locks to the threaded screw holes in the plate, pulling the bone to the plate
Twice the cost of non locking
Nonlocking : doesn’t lock into anything, use for bone to bone
Foot anatomy
Planes
Transverse, frontal, saggital
Directional terms
Headed vs headless screw?
Headed : fixation of small and long bones
Example: Asnis cannulated screw system
Headless : self tapping, reverse cutting flutes. for small bone fixation.
Example: Fixos headless cannulated compression screws
Partially threaded vs fully threaded Screw?
Partially Threaded : threaded partially, unthreaded section below the head which is the grip length
Some like the grip of the unthreaded section to pull the bone
Fully Threaded : threads that run up the whole length of the screw
