First Aid: CPR & AED Flashcards

1
Q

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED):

Scenario: “The Guest’s condition has now gotten worse, and they appear to be unconscious. What do you need
to do?”

** NOTE: During this drill, you will be required to work in teams of two (2). You will be asked to fulfill both roles, i.e., first demonstrate effective CPR and then, demonstrate the correct assembly of the BB and correct use of an AED. Your Instructor will assign the roles at the beginning of the drill. **

A

Action:
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR):
• Check the scene to ensure it is safe (verbally state).
• Don Personal Protection Equipment.
• Check the victim for consciousness/response by physically tapping them and shouting:
“Are you alright, can you hear me?” or “Are you okay?”
• Instruct someone to call the Captain and get the AED.
• Quickly scan the victim for breathing for a maximum of 5 to 10 seconds.
• Bare the victim’s chest and locate the correct CPR hand position (hands on top of each other, bottom hand open,
and top hand grasping bottom hand).
• Deliver the first cycle of 30 compressions at the correct rate with full chest recoil, while ensuring proper technique and hand position (arms straight/hands on top of each other, bottom hand open, and top hand grasping bottom, using the heel of the hand for compressions).
• Open the airway (using head tilt/chin lift) use BB (ensure BB is placed on Guest properly) and give 2 breaths (1
second each), ensure chest visibly rises.
• Continue cycles of 30 compressions followed by 2 breaths until AED is available.
