RICER- soft tissue
R-est. Reduces further damage. Avoid movement to limit further injury
I-ce. Apply a hot/cold pack for 20 mins every 2 hours. Continue for the first 48-72 hours. Cools the tissue & reduces pain, swelling & bleeding.
C-ompression. Cover the injured area as well as above and below to reduce bleeding and swelling. Make sure isn’t too tight.
E-levation. Stops bleeding & swelling.
R-eferral. Referral to a qualified professional or recover quickly

D-anger. Ensure the area is safe for you, others & the patient.
R-esponse. Ask name squeeze shoulders (COWS)
S-end for help. Get someone to call 000
A-irways. Open mouth, if foreign material is present: place in recovery position & clear airways with your fingers or patients fingers. Open airways by tilting head with chin lift.
B-reathing. Use look, listen & feel to check for breathing. If breathing, place in recovery position, monitor breathing, treat injuries and for shock.
C-PR. 30 chest compressions:2 breaths. Continue until help arrives, patient is breathing again or you are physically exhausted.
D-efibrillation. Apply defibrillator if available and follow the voice controls.
CPR rates and depth
30 compressions:2 breaths
Push down 1/3 of the depth of the chest in the centre of the nipples on the sternum.
Rate is approx 100 compressions per minute
