Place all the heavy things down the bottom so that it sits on your hips when you walk. First in, last out.
Items that should be waterproofed in your Pack
Everything. Line bag with a dead dog bag or pack liner. Cover things like sleeping mat and sleeping bag with a cover or garbage bag.
Selecting a campsite- tent
Look for high ground - higher=drier
Do not set up under a tree with dead limbs
Look for designated camp sites
Set up camp at least 100m away from the trail

Take things that will give you enough energy and nutrients for the activities you are planning to take out that day
Take plenty of water but separate it into even amounts (2, 1L bottles) so the weight evenly distributes
